Firstly I just want to say I hope everyone has an amazing New Years Eve and have a wonderful 2011- I mean that from the bottom of my heart

I wish only the best for everyone and hope you all stay healthy, happy, and safe!
Today I am on my way to Queensland (Surfers Paradise) with my lovely sister and good friends for New Years, I am so excited at the chance to spend time with the people I love- I can't think of a better way to spend it

Now onto the serious stuff....
Recently, I have had a LOT of notes from people on deviantART asking to use my photographs on different websites, such as Gaiaonline or something to that name. A lot of people want to edit, publish, and basically use my work on these different websites. I have to be VERY forthright in saying that I put my heart, soul, and creativity into these photographs, and though I appreciate that others like it enough to want to use it- I am VERY upset that so many people would edit them when they are ALREADY finished products of my work- and they, in my eyes, are beautiful to me. Why should I allow anyone the right to do such an awful thing to my photos?
So I ask you Artists out there, be creative enough to MAKE YOUR OWN WORK. Don't use other peoples FINISHED products. My work is NOT STOCK!!! Please, I am asking you all to create your work like I have created mine, and so have other artists here on dA. I am so tired of finding my work stolen or edited on different websites, it is astonishing. I have no problem with my work being on Tumblr (if they are the originals), or on blogs (with me credited), but I will refuse anyone permission to just "take" my work with a simple click of a button. CREATE YOUR OWN UNIQUE PIECE OF WORK PLEASE. This is an ART site, so be creative in your own way.
I have spent hours taking photographs, editing and overall- putting all my heart into my work. So please, do the same.
Thank you for reading, and I wish you all the very best on your creative endeavours.
It's not funny at all. i often find stolen photos from artists I know here on DA.. Now you're speaking about those permisson requests. I sent you a request months ago. I said I wanted to use your photos as references for my drawings and of course I will credit you. you did not answer, maybe too busy ?
Anyway, you know, we cannot draw reality with no reference !
oh and Happy New Year 2011 Sarah
Nearly all my work is available under a Creative Commons Non-Commercial Share Alike license (and it's only non-commercial in the hopes I'm told my work is used for commercial applications, so I can then gloat about it
There are two real reasons why I do this.
First, it means I don't have to go chasing people around because they saved my images or used them, I only have to worry about any commercial uses of them.
Second, I strongly support the concept of the 'remix culture', the ability to take someone's creative work and do something new or unexpected with it, for example, as well as to provide resources to those who want to do more mundane things with my images (more than once I've used CC'd images in one of my youtube videos to make them, you know, interesting
Are my photo's complete works? Of course, at least, they're as complete as my current skill-set will allow them to be.
However, I accept the reality that my vision isn't the only one, so, I welcome others to create their own interpretations of what they see.
Ultimately, however, regardless of my personal philosophy, I accept that, if it's going to happen, it will happen, so, there's no pointing in hiding from it, better to embrace it, hence my usage of a CC license
Of course, all this is rather academic, given that I've never actually had any of my images actually used or stolen
have no want to - but others should do their own!
as far as the serious stuff, i completely agree with you. unfortunately, there are very few artists compared to number of people who want to be artists but have no talent, so that's where this situation comes in. i suppose the good thing is that they asked, because so many might not and unless you find them, you'd never know. that fact brings me down sometimes... but the bottom line is, if anyone uses it for commercial gain without permission they'll have to pay in the end, and as far as non-commercial stuff, keep the display size relatively small and, well, i suppose whilst it is important to keep giving the message that they are not free to use, just think how many famous pieces of art are commonly exploited in this way. i figure that all good artists find themselves in this situation sooner or later, so at least you are in good company.
P.S. I have something to tell you, but I will note it.
There's millions of stock photos on this website that have the download option enabled and thats where these people should be going.
Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful new year
