Indigenous Australians are descendants of the first known human inhabitants of the Australian continent and its nearby islands. This includes both the Torres Strait Islanders and the Aboriginal People, who together make up about 2.6% of Australia's current population.
Prominent Indigenous Australians include Ernie Dingo, Cathy Freeman, Lionel Rose, Evonne Goolagong, Mandawuy Yunupingu, and famous land right activist Eddie Mabo.
The capital city is Canberra, located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). The population is just over 21.3 million, with approximately 60% of the population concentrated in and around the mainland state capitals of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.
These are just a few famous Australian actors, actresses, icons, and Australian legends. Real famous and significant Australians include; Sir Weary Dunlop (surgeon, war hero), Fred Hollows (famous eye surgeon), Mary McKillop (yet to be proclaimed a saint), Rupert Murdoch (one of the most powerful businessman in the world), John Curtin (ex prime minister), Caroline Chisolm (social achiever), Tom Roberts (painter), Banjo Paterson (writer and poet), etc.
Australia has so many famous and talented Bands, musicians, singers and song writers. Many of these people have started out small, and suddenly became huge! Kylie is an Australian pop singer-songwriter and occasional actress. She rose to prominence in the late 1980s through her role in the Australian television soap opera Neighbours, before commencing her career as a recording artist in 1987.
The Veronicas started out on a few TV shows, one of the most popular being "Cybergirl". On their 18th birthday Jessica received her first guitar, with this the girls began writing and singing songs. In 2004, after many demo recordings, they signed to a production deal.
